Happy New Year!
Actually, it's a little bit late greeting, but nowadays I don't have enough time to access the internet, Hangul is still unavailabe in the UN office.

I was in the Government Palace on the days of New year's eve & New year's day. There was an new year celebration party there, so UNPOLs patrolled and guarded the place. But we had a heavy rain for the whole evening, I had to put on raincoat in the Aussie car with broken windows. The rain stopped at night, Timorese began concert with very few civillians against their expectation. The funniest thing in the concert was a rock group singing 'I wanna wish your Merry X-mas' for an hour! The streets were filled up with lots of fireworks and firecrackers same as X-mas. Even in the Sakura Tower(where has just 4 levels so it is a little bit short for the name 'Tower', but it's one of the biggest building in Dili anyway), they had a firework party on the roof-top besides my room. I wanted to be there.

I moved the room on the roof top, finally a personal single room! I like it even though it doesn't have a shower room so that I have to use a public one, I can have personal practice here and feel some freedom with $400 per month. You can see the my new room and how is a public shower room(and toilet). Most of public toilets is like this. No flushing, just pour water on your own. ;)

On the 4th of January, I was very lucky to have another good chance to experience a new martial art, Krav Maga, Israelli MA. At the first time, I had the second BJJ training with Mark, soaked up with sweat. And on the second session, I also had an KM trainining with a Portugese officer. Experiencing KM in real, it was quite aggressive but still has many good points to learn. The problem for me was footsteps and distance because mine is adjust to Aikido. Anyway it was very good. We can make friends with martial arts. The slide show below is taken from the Krav Maga training.

See you all with deep regard.

Sung, Ju-hwan

UNPOL, UNMIT

p.s. Somtimes, an odd thing may have your distance from the others closer. Usually I walk around in Hanbok pants which is very comfortable.(a Hanbok shirt is not much put on because it's very hot and humid so easily soaked up with my own sweat in just 2-3 minutes. I put it on on formal occassions.) And
I brought an Ipponba geta. It's now odd even to Japanese. We have many persons from many contries in Sakura Tower, I somtimes wander around in Ipponba geta, they gave me interests. A Korean wearing Japanese geta. Funny. Below is a Timorese security guard wearing my geta. He showed much interest in it, so I taught him how to walk in it. He did very good.
