If you heard 'Aikido in movies', mostly you would imagine 'Steven Seagal'.
아이키도 영화를 들자면, 대부분 스티븐 시걸을 상상할 것이다.
But in Japan also there's a couple of Aikido movies, which are hardly known nowadays.
하지만, 현재 잘 알려지진 않았지만, 일본에서도 몇 편의 아이키도 영화가 만들어졌다.
Here I post a movie titled '激突! 合氣道'(English title; 'The Defensive Power of Aikido') made by Toei production in 1975. The story is based on from O-sensei's Hokkaido days to foundation of Ueshiba-juku, combined with a fiction of revenge story against Natori-ryu Karate.
여기서 소개할 영화는 '激突! 合氣道(격돌! 합기도)'라는 영화로 1975년 도에이 영화사에 의해 제작된 것이다. 내용은 큰선생의 홋카이도 개척단 시절부터 우에시바숙(植芝熟) 개관시까지의 실제 스토리에 나토리류 가라데와의 복수담이라는 픽션을 가미한 것이다.
<synopsis>
Ueshiba Morihei(played by Jiro Chiba) who was famous of Kito-ryu Jujutsu and Yagyu-ryu Kenjutsu is a leader of Hokkaido pioneers. But after defeated by Natori(Sonny Chiba), an expert of Natori-ryu Karate, Ueshiba, seeking his revenge, begins to train under Honda of Shiten-ryu Jujutsu and gets a license while Natori fell in love with Ueshiba's sister and left together. Ueshiba travels around Japan and defeated other styles, and arrived at Natori's elder brither's dojo, and got an easy victory. Natori's borther committs suicide out of his broken pride, his all sutdents are after Ueshiba for a revenge. During never ending chases, Ueshiba met Deguchi Onisaburo, a Omoto priest and was given his newly starting dojo's name 'Ueshiba-juku' Ueshiba and Natori happened to meet and acknowlege each other as rivals and friends. Now they both have to confront the killers from Natori-ryu Karate.

우에시바 모리헤이(치바 지로 분)는 홋카이도 개척단의 리더로서 키토류 유술과 야규류 검술 실력으로 유명하였다. 하지만, 나토리류 가라데의 나토리(소니 치바 분)에게 패한 후 복수를 다짐한 우에시바는 시텐류 유술의 혼다 밑에서 수련을 시작하여 면허를 받지만, 나토리는 우에시바의 누나와 사랑에 빠져 함께 홋카이도를 떠난 후였다.우에시바는 일본을 돌며 타유파들을 격파하면서 도쿄에 있는 나토리의 형의 도장에 도착, 손쉬운 승리를 거둔다. 나토리의 형은 깨어진 자존심으로 인해 자결하고, 그 제자들은 복수를 위해 우에시바를 쫓으며 차례차례 습격한다. 끝없는 추격 와중에 우에시바는 오모토교의 데구치 오니사부로를 만나고, '우에시바숙'이란 이름을 받아 도장을 개관한다. 우에시바와 나토리는 우연히 마주치고 서로를 라이벌이자 친구로서 인정하기 시작하게 되고, 이제 둘은 함께 나토리류 가라데의 자객들을 상대할 수 밖에 없는데..
Officially supportted by Aikikai, the movie begins with a demonstration of Gisshomaru Ueshiba's, some famous real Aikidokas like Endo Seishiro sensei and other martial artists play extras in the movie. And as you might notice, the name of Takeda Sogaku and Daitoryu is removed and changed into other fictitious names.
아이키카이의 공식 지원을 받아 만들어진 영화로, 우에시바 기쇼마루 2대도주의 연무로 시작되며, 엔도 세이시로 선생과 같은 유명한 아이키도가 및 타류의 무술가들이 엑스트라로 출연한다. 그리고 아마도 눈치챘겠지만, 다케다 소가쿠와 대동류는 다른 가공의 이름으로 대체되었다.

p.s. Sonny Chiba, a famous action star in the 70s, plays a Karate expert Natori, he is a real black belt in Kyokushin Karate and had played as Mas Oyama in a Kyoukushin movie. You can see him in 'Kill Bill vol.1' as Hattori Hanjo, a swordsmith.
p.s. 70년대의 액션스타 소니 치바가 여기서 가라데 고수인 나토리를 연기하는데, 실제로 교쿠신 가라데 유단자로, 극진회 영화에서 마스 오야마 역을 맡기도 하였음. 최근에는 영화 '킬빌 vol.1'의 도검 장인, 핫토리 한조로 출연했다.
Jiro Chiba, who played Ueshiba Morihei, is Sonny's younger brother.
우에시바 모리헤이 역을 맡은 치바 지로는 소니의 동생.
p.s.2 Above is a short movie(undubbed) 'Brawl' shot in March, 2002, which I played one of villans. It took 2 days to shoot and was freezing cold at the time.
p.s.2 2002년 3월에 찍은 무성단편영화 '해변의 결투'. 나가떨어지는 악역 중 한 명. 촬영에 이틀 걸렸는데, 정말 추웠음.
